This year, the Oscars is bookending Hollywood’s biggest night with music. H.E.R., Leslie Odom Jr., Celeste, Laura Pausini, Daniel Pemberton, Molly Sandén and Diane Warren will perform the five nominated original songs in their entirety for “Oscars: Into the Spotlight”, the lead-in to the 93rd Oscars, producers Jesse Collins, Stacey Sher and Steven Soderbergh announced today. One performance will be recorded in Húsavík, Iceland and four at the Dolby Family Terrace of the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles. “Oscars: Into the Spotlight” will air live on Oscar Sunday, April 25, at 6:30 p.m. ET/3:30 p.m. PT. “We’ve come up with some serious pre-game and post-game action to enhance our main event,” said Collins, Sher and Soderbergh. “Our suggestion is just tune in for the whole shebang, otherwise you’ll miss something really unexpected and fun.”
“Oscars: Into the Spotlight” will be hosted by actors Lil Rel Howery (Bad Trip) and Ariana DeBose (Hamilton). The 90-minute show will highlight the nominees‘ journey to the Oscars while givings fans backstage access into the party. The two specials mark the first time the show is providing music for Oscars festivities, all equipped with a special appearance by DJ Tara.
At the conclusion of the 93rd Oscars, the celebration continues live on ABC with “Oscars: After Dark,” hosted by actors Colman Domingo (Zola) and Andrew Rannells (The Prom); featuring interviews by film critic Elvis Mitchell. The special will recap the evening’s hot moments and showcase Oscar winners as they have their statuettes personalized. Michael Antinoro and David Chamberlin executive-produce both specials alongside producers Collins, Sher and Soderbergh.
The 93rd Oscars will be held at two locations this year, on Sunday, April 25, 2021. One celebration for media and press at Union Station in Los Angeles while attendees will be at the Dolby Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center in Hollywood. International locations will be held via satellite. “Oscars: Into the Spotlight” will air live on Oscar Sunday, April 25, on ABC at 6:30 p.m. ET/3:30 p.m. PT. The Oscars will follow live on ABC at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT. with “Oscars: After Dark” immediately following the Oscars show.
