Javicia Leslie Is Televisions First Black Batwoman

Javicia Leslie has been cast for Season 2 of The CW series Batwoman.

“I am extremely proud to be the first Black actress to play the iconic role of Batwoman on television, and as a bisexual woman, I am honored to join this groundbreaking show which has been such a trailblazer for the LGBTQ+ community,” Leslie said.

Leslie will be portraying Ryan Wilder, a new character on the show. Wilder will replace the character of Kate Kane who was previously played by Ruby Rose. Rose announced her departure from the show at the close of Season 1 in May.

Prior to joining the Batwoman cast, Leslie starred in another CBS series God Friended Me and BET series The Family Business.

Batwoman is produced by Berlanti Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television. The series is slated for a return in January to The CW.
