Jay Ellis, Kiersey Clemons To Star in Dave Franco’s ‘Somebody I Used To Know’

Jay Ellis (Insecure) and Kiersey Clemons (Dope, Antebellum) are set to star in Dave Franco’s latest feature Somebody I Used To Know for Amazon Studios. It has also been reported that Community actress, who is also Franco’s wife, Alison Brie will star in the romantic comedy. Franco and Brie co-penned the script the film they are also executive producing on alongside Laura Quicksilver of Temple Hill, and Teddy Schwarzman, and Bart Lipton of Black Bear. Producing are Marty Bowen, Wyck Godfrey, and Isaac Klausner of Temple Hill, and Ben Stillman, Leigh Kittay, and Michael Heimler from Black Bear.

Somebody I Used To Know follows workaholic Ally (Brie) who, on a trip to her hometown, spends a night reminiscing with her ex-boyfriend Sean (Ellis), which makes her start to question everything about the choices she’s made and the person she’s become. Things only get more confusing when she meets Cassidy (Clemons), a younger woman who reminds her of the person she used to be.

Somebody I Used To Know wont be the first time the couple worked together, however. 2020’s horror, The Rental, paired the two together with Franco directing and Brie starring. On the new rom-com venture Franco said:

“Alison and I love romantic comedies and were inspired by the classics from the ’80s and ’90s. We couldn’t be more excited about working with Jay and Kiersey, who are both extremely natural performers, capable of bringing levity and drama in equal measure. And we’re so grateful to have partnered with Amazon Studios, who have been incredibly supportive in helping bring this project to life.”

Franco is no stranger to the business, as he began his career much like his brother – James Franco – in acting. The actor started off in television starring in Greek, Privledged and Scrubs. He’s also starred on the big screen in 2014’s Neighbors with Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne, and the 2013 and 2016 films Now You See Me and Now You See Me 2. Lately the actor has been making moves behind the camera by producing Zola for A24, the upcoming miniseries Pam & Tommy for Hulu, and the Vanilla Ice biopic he is also said to front – To the Extreme.

Ellis is most known for playing controversial character Lawrence on Issa Rae’s hit HBO dramedy Insecure, returning to the network for its fifth and final season this October. The actor can be seen alongside Tom Cruise in Paramount’s upcoming sequel Top Gun: Maverick.

Clemons has been making waves since her first major feature role in the 2015 hit Dope. Since then the actress has starred in a number of films including 2017’S Flatliners, 2019’s Sweetheart and Disney’s Lady and the Tramp, and 2020’s Antebellum alongside Janelle Monae. Upcoming, Clemons will be reprising her role as Iris West Allen in Warner Bros The Flash.
