Actor/singer Jesse Martin (‘Rent’) is set to play Queen Latifah’s husband in ‘Joyful Noise.’

Best known for his portrayal of NYPD Detective Ed Green on the NBC drama television series ‘Law & Order,’ the Virginia State native is coming performing on Broadway with Al Pacino in ‘The Merchant of Venice.’

‘Joyful Noise’ focuses on a pair of ladies who work to stop the closure of a scrappy gospel choir. Latifah will portray the mother of a couple of teenagers who takes the reins of the Pacashau Gospel Choir after the choir leader dies. Country singer Dolly Parton will play the late choir director’s wife who is gunning for the chance to helm the singing group.

It marks Parton’s first major starring role since ‘Straight Talk’ in 1992.

Written and directed by Todd Graff, the film also stars Keke Palmer, who’s plays Latifah’s daughter.

Martin is also returning to series TV with a lead role in Marc Cherry’s drama pilot for ABC ‘Hallelujah,’ which is set in the town of Hallelujah, Tenn., which is being torn apart by the forces of good and evil and whose fortunes change when a stranger comes to town, bringing justice, peace and possibly restoring faith, states Deadline.com.

Martin will play a mysterious, charming drifter who crosses paths with the newcomer.

Back in 2006, Martin was slated to star in the Marvin Gaye biopic ‘Sexual Healing,’ but the production is still in limbo.
