Jodie Turner-Smith to Play Anne Boleyn for UK Based Channel 5

British model and Queen & Slim actress, Jodie Turner-Smith, is re-making history by playing infamous English Queen, Anne Boleyn, for the British based network Channel 5. Eve Hedderwick Turner is writing the script which will be directed by Lynsey Miller (Deadwater Fell). Faye Ward (The Other Boleyn Girl) and Hannah Farell are producing via Fable Pictures. Executive producing is historian Dan Jones, holding an overall deal with the company that is helping to finance and internationally distribute the series – Sony Pictures Television.

The three part series (with the working title, Anne Boleyn) will look into the last days of the second wife to King Henry VIII, with a psychological-thriller spin. Boleyn will be fighting to secure a future for her daughter, standing up to the patriarchy, and coping with not providing the king with a male heir – hoping to shed a feminist light onto the historical figures’ life. Turner-Smith told Variety, “I am so excited to join these exciting filmmakers in bringing the story of one of history’s most controversial queens to the screen. Delving deeper into Anne Boleyn’s immense strengths while examining her fatal weaknesses and vulnerabilities, Eve’s scripts immediately captured my imagination. In the hands of Lynsey Miller, the legend of this formidable queen and fierce mother will be seen as a deeply human story that is still so relevant for today. I look forward to bringing my heart and spirit into this daring retelling of the fall of this iconic woman.”

Joining Turner-Smith on the cast are Amanda Burton (“White House Farm”), Paapa Essiedu (“I May Destroy You”), Thalissa Teixeira (“Trigonometry”), Barry Ward (“Des”) and Jamael Westman (“Animals”).

Jodie Turner-Smith began her career as a model which soon led to her debut role in HBO’s True Blood as Siren. Turner-Smith gained notoriety for her role as Sgt. Azima Kandie in TNT’s The Last Ship and then in the Syfy/Netflix series Nightflyers as Melantha Jhirl.
