Jussie Smollett makes his directorial debut with his adaptation of James Earl Hardy’s 1994 novel B-Boy Blues. The cast is set and features Grammy winner Ledisi (Selma), Timothy Richardson (David Makes Man), Thomas Mackie and Brandi P. Evans (P-Valley).
The movie was written by Smollett and Hardy, highlighting the LGBTQ+ community. The film examines the love and life of Mitchell Crawford (Richardson), a middle class, politically conscious magazine editor and Harlem bred rough-neck bike messenger Raheim (Mackie). Crawford’s mother – Ann Walker – is being played by Ledisi with Evans playing Mitchell’s assistant, Michi.
Smollett is producing the project under his new SuperMassive Movies. Filming is currently underway in New York.
