Audra McDonald, award winning actress and The Good Fight co-star, will be heading the Spectrum Originals’ new series The Second Wave. The pandemic-themed drama is a six-episode series created and written by Robert and Michelle King. The couple is also executive producing the series through their company King Size Productions, with Liz Glotzer and Brooke Kennedy. Spectrum Originals and CBS studios are co-producing.
The Second Wave, chronicles an unexpected and deadly second wave of the Coronavirus outbreak in New York City. The show follows neighbors Rachel (McDonald) and Lily (Taylor Schilling) who are adjusting to their new normal, trying to keep their careers and relationships intact – all during a pandemic. Rachel is managing her telemedicine clients in addition to her shaky and passionless marriage. Lily, residing upstairs, is fighting for her Wall Street clients. Justifying that her skills are just as useful virtually as they were in person. The two then have to fight for everything they love when an unforeseen second wave of the Coronavirus hits, threatening their careers, family, and possibly even the world as they know it. Taylor Schilling (Orange is the New Black) plays her neighbor Lily with Steven Pasquale Star (Alien Vs. Predator: Requiem) playing Rachel’s (McDonald) husband, Dr. Zach.
Filming for The Second Wave is slated for late October to run through December 23. The network is making an audacious turn around and plans to premier the series before the end of the year on Spectrum on Demand.
In a quick pivot, once wrapped on The Second Wave, McDonald will begin filming the fifth season of The Good Fight slated for January. The multitalented actress holds a record breaking six Tony Awards, two Grammys and an Emmy. To add to this, McDonald was awarded the National Medal of Arts in 2015 by President Barack Obama. She can also be seen in the upcoming Aretha Franklin biopic, Respect, from MGM.
