
Bleecker Street has released the official trailer and teaser poster for Brian Banks, the true story about an All-American football player who went to prison for a crime he did not commit. Directed by Tom Shadyac, the pic premiered at the Los Angeles Film Festival, where it picked up the Audience Award. It will hits theaters August 9, 2019.
Written by Doug Atchison, who wrote and directed the critically acclaimed Akeelah and the Bee, the film stars Aldis Hodge (Underground) in the title role.
The cast also includes Greg Kinnear, Sherri Shepherd, Melanie Liburd, Dorian Missick, Xosha Roquemore, Tiffany Dupont, and football player turned actor Matt Battaglia.
The inspirational true story of Brian Banks (Aldis Hodge), an All-American high school football star committed to USC who finds his life upended when he is wrongly convicted of a crime he didn’t commit. Despite lack of evidence, Banks is railroaded through a broken justice system and sentenced to a decade of prison and probation. Years later, with the support of Justin Brooks (Greg Kinnear) and the California Innocence Project, Banks fights to reclaim his life and fulfill his dreams of playing in the NFL.
Producing the film were Monica Levinson and Shivani Rawat’s ShivHans Pictures and Amy Baer’s Gidden Media. Derrick Tseng and Tirrell D. Whittley are executive producers.
