Pharrell Added to ‘Sing 2’ Cast

Deadline reported earlier today that producer/musician Pharrell will be joining the cast of the animated film Sing 2. The Happy singer has been cast as a leading voice along with Bono from U2 and pop singer Halsey. Other new voices that have been added to the film are Letitia Wright, Bobby Cannavale, Eric Andre, and Chelsea Peretti. Coming back to reprise their original roles from the 2016 original release are Tori Kelly, Reese Witherspoon, Matthew McConaughey, Scarlett Johannsson, Taron Egerton, and Nick Kroll. The film is coming from Illumination/Universal studios and is set to be released the 2021 holiday season. Garth Jennings, writer and director for Sing, is writing and directing for the sequel. Producing are Janet Healy and Illumination’s CEO Chris Meledandri.

Meledandri told Deadline, “Sing 2 transcends the animation genre, immersing audiences in a fully realized world populated by complex characters, each with bold aspirations and relatable challenges…We are thrilled that the Sing franchise attracts such exceptional talent, and we are delighted to announce this extraordinary cast. The film is a musical celebration of the unrelenting pursuit of one’s dreams, no matter how large the challenges that stand in your way. At its core this movie speaks to the power of optimism and belief.”

Sing 2 will mark Williams second time creating for Illumination, as his hit song Happy was the feel good track to their 2013 animated film Despicable Me 2.
