Last night, 20th Century Fox held the New York premiere for David O. Russell‘s comedy-drama, ‘Joy’ at Ziegfeld Theater.
In attendance were the cast (Jennifer Lawrence, Robert De Niro, Bradley Cooper, Edgar Ramirez, Isabella Rossellini, Dascha Polanco, Diane Ladd, Jimmy Jean-Louis, Melissa Rivers, Susan Lucci, and Virginia Madsen.)
Written by O. Russell, Joy is the wild story of a family across four generations centered on the girl Joy Mangano (Jennifer Lawrence), who becomes the woman who founds a business dynasty and becomes a matriarch in her own right. Betrayal, treachery, the loss of innocence and the scars of love, pave the road in this intense emotional and human comedy about becoming a true boss of family and enterprise facing a world of unforgiving commerce. Allies become adversaries and adversaries become allies, both inside and outside the family, as Joy’s inner life and fierce imagination carry her through the storm she faces. Like David O. Russell’s previous films, Joy defies genre to tell a story of family, loyalty, and love.
Cooper plays an executive at the Home Shopping Network, with Robert De Niro as Mangano’s father, and Édgar Ramírez as Tony Miranne, Joy’s divorced husband.
For Lawrence and Cooper, this marks their fourth collaboration following O. Russell’s two films, Silver Linings Playbook, which Lawrence won the Oscar for Best Actress, and American Hustle, where she received another Best Actress Oscar nomination. Earlier this, the duo starred in Susanne Bier’s Serena.
The film hits theaters on December 25, 2015.
