Poster and Trailer for Phillip Youmans’ Award Winning Film ‘Burning Cane’

Ava DuVernay’s ARRAY Releasing presents the poster and trailer for BURNING CANE, winner of three awards at this year’s Tribeca Film Festival, including Best Narrative Feature. The film is the debut feature from 19-year-old filmmaker Phillip Youmans. Youmans is the youngest filmmaker to have a film accepted at Tribeca and the first African American filmmaker to win Best Narrative Feature. BURNING CANE will open in New York at the IFC Center on Friday, October 25 and in Los Angeles at ARRAY’s Amanda Theater on Friday, November 8. The film will premiere on Netflix on Wednesday, November 6. Current screening schedule below.

Set in Southeastern Louisiana, the story centers on a worried mother (Karen Kaia Livers) caring for her mange-ridden family dog; her unemployed, alcoholic son (Dominique McClellan) and the wife (Emyri Crutchfield) who supports him; and a preacher (Wendell Pierce) whose wife’s recent death has pushed him toward the bottle

BURNING CANE marks the third acquisition of 2019 for ARRAY, which previously released critically acclaimed Ghanaian gem THE BURIAL OF KOJO by Samuel Bazawule and Official Sundance Selection MERATA by documentarian Hepi Mita earlier this year.
