S. Epatha Merkerson and Meagan Good

S. Epatha Merkerson will have a recurring role on NBC’s drama pilot Babylon Fields, reuniting with her ‘Deception’ co-star Meagan Good.

babylon fieldsBabylon was initially a project that was produced, developed and piloted at CBS seven years ago.

Directed by Michael Cuesta, with Gerald Cuesta and Michael Atkinson serving as the screenwriters, the series is about a town’s residents coming back from the dead. Described as a sardonic drama, in Babylon Fields, the dead are rising in Babylon, NY, and as a result, lives are regained, old wounds are reopened and families are restored — for better or worse. The newly regenerated bodies are healing faster and growing stronger than anyone else leading to the suspicion that they might be the next step in human evolution.

Good will play Janine Beltran, a beautiful local doctor with an edge to her. Merkerson is her stepmother, Pearl Montoya. On ‘Deception’ the duo played mother and daughter.

Merkerson has had a long history with NBC. Prior to joining its 2013 drama series Deception, which only lasted one season, the Michigan native is best known for her role as NYPD Lieutenant Anita Van Buren on the network’s long-running drama series, Law & Order, where she appeared in 391 episodes (from 1993 to 2010) of the series, more than any other cast member.
