
Straight from San Diego Comic-Con, Paramount Pictures and Tom Cruise have released the first trailer for the “Top Gun” sequel “Top Gun: Maverick,” which is slated to open June 26th next year.
The new film is set in a world of drone technology and fifth generation fighters along with exploring the end of the era of dogfighting. Maverick (Cruise) is now a flight instructor, who takes Bradley Bradshaw (Miles Teller), the son of Maverick’s late partner Nick “Goose” Bradshaw, under his wing.
The film also stars Jon Hamm, Val Kilmer, Jennifer Connelly, Glen Powell and Ed Harris. Joseph Kosinski helms from a script by Peter Craig, Justin Marks and Eric Warren Singer.

Also in the cast are Thomasin McKenzie (Jojo Rabbit), Charles Parnell (The Last Ship), Bashir Salahuddin( GLOW), Danny Ramirez (Assassination Nation), and Monica Barbaro (The Good Cop).
McKenzie will play the daughter of Connelly’s character. Parnell, who just played a similar role on TNT’s The Last Ship, will play an admiral. Ellis, Ramirez and Barbaro will play Top Gun pilots with Salahuddin playing an engineer. Barbara will also play Teller’s love interest.

Joseph Kosinski will direct the film with script by Peter Craig, Justin Marks and Eric Warren Singer. Jerry Bruckheimer, who produced the first film, is back with Cruise and Skydance’s David Ellison
The original Top Gun was directed by Tony Scott and also starred Kelly McGillis, Anthony Edwards and Tom Skerritt. The film won an Academy Award for Best Original Song for “Take My Breath Away” performed by Berlin. In 2015, the United States Library of Congress selected the film for preservation in the National Film Registry, finding it “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.”
Top Gun: Maverick will hit theaters on June 26, 2020.
