The SAW series is back again for a thrilling new ride with Spiral: The Book of SAW, this time with Chris Rock and Samuel L Jackson at the center of the chaos. The movie is set to be released on May 14, making it the ninth addition to the SAW series. Rock not only stars in the film, but also serves as executive producer alongside Daniel Jason Heffner, SAW creator James Wan, Leigh Whannell, Stacey Testro, Jason Constantine, Greg Hoffman, and Kevin Greutert. Also starring in the thriller are Max Minghella, and Marisol Nichols. Mark Burg and Oren Koules – the original Saw team – are producing. Darren Lynn Bousman is directing while the script was written by Josh Stolberg & Pete Goldfinger. The film is being released under Lionsgate, with Twisted Pictures and Burg/Koules producing. Spiral is the terrifying new chapter from the book of Saw, following a criminal mastermind who unleashes a twisted form of justice that SAW fans have come to know and love. In the film, brash Detective Ezekiel “Zeke” Banks (Chris Rock) and his rookie partner (Max Minghella) take charge of a grisly investigation into murders that are eerily reminiscent of the city’s gruesome past. Banks, who runs out of leads, must look to his father, an esteemed police veteran (Samuel L. Jackson) for help. Unwittingly entrapped in a deepening mystery, Zeke finds himself at the center of the killer’s morbid game.
Jackson took to his Twitter on Monday to tease fans with a picture of himself featuring a warped face for the new movie, which is the latest addition to the franchise since 2017’s JIGSAW. The SAW horror franchise was created by James Wan and Leigh Wannell. The films center on the eccentric serial killer John Kramer, who instead of killing his victims immediately, put them through a series of sadistic physical and mental games to test their will to live, with an end goal of “rehabilitating” his victims.
Chris Rock is most known for his comedy specials and hilarious characters he portrays on film, however the actor has been moving steadily into more dramatic roles. Most recently, Rock plays ruthless gangster, Loy Cannon, on season four of the FX series Fargo.
