The 2022 Emmy Awards HISTORIC Nominations Were Announced including Zendaya, Quinta Brunson, Janelle James, and MORE!

The 2022 Emmy Awards nominees were announced, and plenty of your favorites were listed. However this year proves to be historic for Zendaya, Quinta Brunson, Janelle James, and MORE!

  • Quinta Brunson‘s blockbuster ABC series “Abbott Elementary” has seven total nominations, and she also made history as the first Black woman ever to receive three comedy Emmy nominations including best writer for the show’s pilot episode. Yes! “She got moneyyyyy!”
  • Zendaya scored her first Emmy in 2020, making her the youngest recipient of the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series. With this year’s nomination, she’s now the youngest two-time lead nominee.
  • President Barack Obama has earned his first Emmy nomination for the narration of the Netflix docuseries Our Great National Parks. Obama has 2 Spoken Word Grammy Awards for the audiobooks of his works Dreams From My Father and The Audacity of Hope.
  • There were 50 first-time performer nominees across all performer categories this season including Chadwick Boseman (What If…?), Jung Ho-yeon (Squid Game), Lee Jung-jae (Squid Game), Sheryl Lee Ralph (Abbott Elementary), Sanaa Lathan (Succession) and Janelle James (Abbott Elementary).
  • Almost half of the directors nominated in the scripted directing categories were women. This season also saw women receive almost 40% of the nominations in the scripted writing categories. Thirty-four percent of this year’s nominees for Outstanding Writing in all writing categories were women.

Individuals nominations were also announced for Janelle James, Tyler James Williams, Quinta Bronson, and Sheryl Lee Ralph.

Quinta Bronson is the first black woman to earn three nominations in the comedy category same year.
