Lionsgate has tapped Victoria Mahoney to direct the upcoming action-drama flic –Shadow Force. Kerry Washington and Sterling K. Brown are set to lead the film. Already a part of filmmaking history, Mahoney served as the second unit director for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker – the first African-American woman to hold a directing credit in the franchise’s history.
In Shadow Force, Brown and Washington play a married couple with a bounty on their heads. Their former employee – a unit of shadow ops – is on a mission to kill the duo, forcing them to go on the run with their son in tow. The lead actors are also serving as producers on the film via Kerry Washington’s Simpson Street Productions and Brown’s Indian Meadows Productions, alongside Stephen “Dr.” Love through his Made With Love Media company. Danielle Reardon, Jennifer Wiley-Stockton and Katherine Atkinson are executive producing the film through Indian Meadows’. The story is written by Leon Chills and Joe Carnahan.
Mahoney made her directorial debut with 2011’s Yelling at the Sky and has an impressive credit list of her own, working with J.J. Abrams (Star Trek), Patty Jenkins (Wonder Woman), Ava Duvernay (A Wrinkle in Time). The director has also lent her talents to episodes of Lovecraft Country, Power, Queen Sugar, and Grey’s Anatomy. Mahoney has also just landed her first major studio project for Paramount directing the upcoming Kill Them All.
