Yara Shahidi Hosts ‘A Different World’ Reimagining for ‘Zoom Where It Happens’ Final Episode

The Debbie Allen directed special series – Zoom Where it Happens – will be airing its last installment on Oct. 27 with an all-star cast. Tessa Thompson, Yara Shahidi, Storm Reid, Kelly McCreary, Oswin Benjamin and Lil’ Yachty are all set to appear on the series finale of the six episode run. Zoom Where It Happens is a live table read series presented by Black women artists to raise awareness and activation around voting rights. The show is in partnership with Zoom.

The final episode is a reimagining of 90’s sit-com hit A Different World. Golden Globe, Emmy and Tony winner, Debbie Allen will be directing and co-starring in the episode with Yara Shahidi hosting. The college classic will be revamping its roles with Thompson playing Kinu, McCreary portraying Whitley, Reid as Freddie and Jaleesa, Allen as Adele, Benjamin as Dwayne Wayne, and Lil Yachty appearing as Ron.

The series has had a lineup of celebrity appearances, reimagining the likes of Golden Girls, Friends and Sanford & Son, featuring Tracee Ellis Ross, Sterling K Brown, Regina King, Alfre Woodard and Cedric the Entertainer on their respective episodes. The series has a star lined production team as well. Tessa Thompson, Ryan Bathe, Aisha Hinds, Cynthia Erivo, Kerry Washington, Rashida Jones, Stefanie and Quentin James, Latanya Richardson-Jackson, Channing Dungey, Karen Richardson, Issa Rae and Ava DuVernay have all lent their talents to the series. The project is also funded by Ava Duvernay’s non-profit ARRAY Alliance, with in-kind resources from Zoom.
