Pure Flix and the Erwin Brothers has released several clips to WOODLAWN, a moving and inspirational film based on the true story of Woodlawn High School’s football team in early 1970s Birmingham, Alabama.
Directed by Andrew Erwin and Jon Erwin, the film stars Sean Astin, Jon Voight, Caleb Castille, Sherri Shepherd, DeVon Franklin and C. Thomas Howell. WOODLAWN hits theaters nationwide on OCTOBER 16th.
Tony Nathan (newcomer Caleb Castille), a gifted high school football player, must learn to boldly embrace his talent and his faith as he battles racial tensions on and off the field when he joins fellow African-American students at Woodlawn High School after its government-mandated desegregation in 1973. The team’s dedication to love and unity in a school filled with racism and hate leads to the largest high school football game ever played in the torn city of Birmingham, Alabama, and the rise of its first African American superstar.
