With the film hitting the $100 million plateau, a first for producer Will Packer, a sequel was inevitable.
Universal Pictures have announced that Tim Story will come back to direct Ice Cube and Kevin Hart in Ride Along 2, with a late June/early July start planned. Screenwriters Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi will also return.
Packer and Cube’s Cube Vision (Ice Cube and Matt Alvarez), the film has grossed over $120M worldwide to date. It opened up with $41.5M during Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday weekend and went on to be #1 at the box office for three straight weeks.
Still playing in theaters, Ride Along centers on the quick-witted security guard (Hart) who has his eye on his partner’s (Cube’s) sister, played by Tika Sumpter.
