Ava DuVernay Pays Homage to Her Cinematic Heroes In The Academy Dialogues Series Finale

Oscar-nominated filmmaker, founder of ARRAY and academy governor, Ava DuVernay is best known as a trailblazing content creator and champion for diverse voices and up-and-coming filmmakers. In the final episode in the series “Academy Dialogues: Broadening the Aperture of Excellence,” Ava DuVernay sits down with two dynamic female filmmakers who paved the way and inspired her – Julie Dash (“Daughters of the Dust”) and Euzhan Palcy (“Sugar Cane Alley”).

The filmmakers examine whether there is an objective form of measurement in the arts and how the Hollywood system can broaden its aperture to appreciate storytelling from the worldviews of different ethnic and racial communities. Watch the final episode below!
