In a recent interview with Complex News, Barack Obama gave Drake the thumbs up to play him should the opportunity arise in a future biopic.
On the segment 360 with Speedy Mormon, the 44th president of the United States was asked by the host, “Would you give the thumbs up for Drake to play you in a biopic?” In response, Obama exclaims, “Drake seems to be able to do anything he wants. I mean that is a talented, talented brother…If the time comes and he’s ready.” he continues, “Drake has more importantly, I think, my household’s stamp of approval. I suspect Malia and Sasha would be just fine with it.”
According to the interview the rapper expressed his interest in playing the first Black President of the United States 10 years ago. The rapper said “I’m waiting for somebody to make the Obama biopic, I’m biracial, I know I can kill the role”.
Amongst the artists who have already portrayed Obama are Parker Sawyers in Southside With You, Devon Terrell in Barry, Kingsley Ben-Adir on The Comey Rule and Jordan Peele in a popular sketch on his show Key and Peele. Although previous movies have told Obama’s backstory, there has yet to be a biopic on the president’s political career. Obama recently released the first of his presidential memoirs A Promised Land.
