Here are 10 shows coming this Spring not to miss, along with a few on air now worth checking out.
A Black Lady Sketch Show, April 23, HBO – 11pm ET/PT.
The first season of this show had us cracking up last year with so many hilarious skits, and impressive guest appearances from big name actors. Brought to HBO by producers Robin Thede and Issa Rae, the narrative sketch comedy series stars cast members Robin Thede, Ashley Nicole Black, Laci Mosley and Skye Townsend. This season look for celebrity guest appearances from Issa Rae, Gabrielle Union, Laz Alonzo, Kim Wayans, Ayesha Curry, Lance Gross and many more. Season 2 airs April 23 at 11pm ET/PT.
The Handmaids Tale, April 28, Hulu
Starring ‘Orange is the New Black‘ star Samira Wiley alongside Elisabeth Moss, the series is an adaptation of the 1985 book by Margret Atwood, is a tragedy about a religion-based totalitarian society. Set in the future, the show explores what could happen if women’s rights were take away. The US is now a Dystopian state, where fertile women, called “Handmaids,” are subjected to child-bearing slavery. This is season 4.
Pose, May 2, 10pm ET/PT, FX
In it’s 3rd and final season, Pose is set in the midst of the 80’s AIDS crisis and is a ground-breaking drama spotlighting the legends and icons of New York’s fabulous underground ball culture. The Emmy award-winning series stars MJ Rodriquez as “Bianca,” and Tony award-winner Billy Porter as “Pray Tell,” along with televisions largest transgender and LGBTQ cast ever in a scripted series. Other stand outs include actors Dominique Jackson, Indya Moore, Hailie Sahar and Sandra Bernhard.
Ziwe, Sunday, May 9, 11pm/10c, Showtime
ZIWE, stars internet sensation, comedian and writer (‘Desus & Mero’, ‘Our Cartoon President‘), Ziwe Fumudoh. The show is a new no-holds-barred late night variety show that is a mix of iconic musical numbers, interviews, guest stars and sketches pushing the envelope on race, politics and more. Ziwe became one of the breakout entertainers of 2020, as her weekly saucy and sarcastic Instagram Live show “Baited” caught the attention of wider audiences during the 2020 lockdown.

Run the World/May 16, 8:30pm ET, Starz
Run the World is a new half hour comedy that follows four vibrant young black women who work, live and play in Harlem USA, as they thrive and strive to Run the World. The long-time best friends are portrayed by Amber Stevens West (“Whitney”), Andrea Bordeaux (“Ella,”), Bresha Webb (“Renee”), Corbin Reid (“Sondi”). Stephen Bishop also stars as “Matthew.”
Black Monday, May 23, 10pm ET/PT, Showtime
Starring Regina Hall and Don Cheadle, complete with big hair and jheri curls, Black Monday is an over-the-top comedy which travels back to October 19, 1987, aka Black Monday, the day the stock market crashed. Regina Hall plays a gutsy foul-mouthed fun-to-watch broker who is successful in breaking into the top tier of the Wall Street boys club. This is season 3. In Treatment, May 23, 9pm ET/PT, HBO
In treatment stars “Orange is the New Black” break out star and Emmy award winner, Uzo Aduba. In Treatment, in it’s 4th season, is a sneak peak behind closed doors of the life of a mental health professional, dealing with the drama of her patients, while also managing her own mental health issues. Treating patients traumatized by the current global pandemic, Adubo takes a seat in the therapist’s chair this season.
Claws, June 9, 9pm ET/PT, TNT
Claws is a badass and wickedly funny dramedy set in a South Florida nail salon. A tale of good people caught in bad situations, the show, now in its 4th season, follows 5 diverse manicurists as they take on underworld crime bosses. Niecy Nash, the leader of the crew, is salon owner/manicurist by day, and unwilling yet badass gangster by night. She does what she needs to to stay afloat and keep her and her girls safe. The show also stars Harold Perrineau and Karrueche Tran.
Tyler Perry’s Sistas, Wednesday, June 9, 9pm /BET
A dramedy from Tyler Perry now in its 3rd season, Sistas follows four single black women living, working and dating in Atlanta. Complicated friendships, careers, family, social media drama, unrealistic #relationshipgoals and more plague these friends as they search for Mr. Right. KJ Smith, Mignon, Ebony Obsidian and Novi Brown lead the ensemble cast.
Girls5eva, May 6, streaming on Peacock
A comedy from Tina Fey, Girls5eva finds a one-hit-wonder 90s girl group on a quest to reunite and give their pop star dreams one more shot. But husbands, kids, careers and debt threaten to derail their plans. The show stars award-winning singer Renee Elise Goldberry, along with Sara Bareilles, SNL’s Paula Pell and actress Busy Phillips.

The Chi, May 23, Showtime
The Chi is a coming of age drama from Lena Waithe centering on a group of Chicagoans who are linked by coincidence. We watch as their interconnected, but separate, lives are changed by death, drugs, racism, entrepreneurship, policing, parenting, love and relationships. The show stars Jacob Latimore, Luke James, Alex Hibbert, and guest stars include five of my favorite ladies – Waithe, La La Anthony formerly of Power, singer/entrepreneur Kandi Burress, youtuber Tabitha Brown and rapper Da Brat.

9-1-1 (Fox, Mondays, 8/7c ) starring and produced by Angela Bassett who portrays veteran police officer Athena Grant dealing with all types of jaw-dropping emergencies.
All-American (CW, Monday, 9/8c) stars rapper Bre-Z, formerly of Empire, and Unfabulous’ Chelsea Tavares along with new comer Daniel Ezra as the main character, football star Spencer James.
Batwoman, (CW, Sundays 8/7c) stars Javicia Leslie formerly of CBS’ God Friended Me as Batwoman.
Black-ish, (ABC, Tuesdays, 9pm ET/PT), Tracee Ellis Ross stars as quirky mom Rainbow, alongside Anthony Anderson, Marsai Martin, and Yara Shahidi and Jenifer Lewis.

Good Girls, (NBC, Sundays,10/9c) stars Retta from Parks and Recreation, alongside Christina Hendricks and Mae Whitman as a trio of suburban Moms who pull of a series of unlikely heists.
Grown-ish, (Freeform, Thursdays, 8pm ET/PT) stars Yara Shahidi in this Black-ish spin off that follows her character Zoe out into the world.
The Last OG (TBS, Tuesdays, 10:30/9:30c) stars Tiffany Haddish and Tracy Morgan in a comedy about a man adjusting to his regentrified Brooklyn neighborhood after a 15 year prison bid.
Queen Sugar (OWN, Tuesdays, 8/7c) stars Dawn-Lyen Gardner, Rutina Wesley, Tina Lifford and Kofi Siriboe. Modern women, along with their family, are thrust into the politics and racism of the sugar cane farming business in Louisiana.
