HBO is bringing back the popular therapy themed drama, In Treatment, for it’s fourth season after a ten year hiatus. In the reimagining, the network has re-cast the beloved main character Paul Weston (Garbiel Byrne) with Uzo Aduba. Mark Wahlberg will be executive producing the show along with Stephen Levinson, Hagai Levi, Jennifer Schuur, Joshua Allen, and Melissa Bernstein. Co-executive producers are Joanne Toll and Noa Tishby. Production looks to start this fall, following all Covid-19 safety guidelines. The network is slating the release in 2021.
The original show chronicled the life of psychologist Paul Westin as he handled a full roster of clients, ultimately forcing him to confront his own personal demons. The show was unique in that it aired five times a week, with each episode focusing on a new patient and repeating the cycle weekly – just as it would be for a therapist in real life. In the reboot, Aduba is playing Dr. Brooke Lawrence who will be – per the network – catering to a diverse trio of patients in session with the observant, empathetic Dr. Brooke Lawrence (Aduba) while she wrestles with her own issues. In Treatment is a half hour series that is based on the original Israeli show BeTipul.
Aduba has a collection of diverse roles under her belt, however, is best known for her role as Suzanne “Crazy Eyes” Warren in the Netflix series Orange is The New Black. The actress earned two Emmy awards for her role as Suzanne and has received an Emmy for best supporting actress in a limited series for her portrayal of Shirley Chisolm in Mrs. America.
