CBS Renews ‘Watson’ starring Morris Chestnut for Season 2 Following Impressive Debut

CBS has wasted no time locking in a second season of Watson, announcing the renewal just two months after the show’s premiere. The medical drama, which stars Morris Chestnut as Dr. John Watson, has quickly become one of the network’s standout hits of the 2024-25 television season.

Watson is averaging a robust 6.79 million viewers weekly. The premiere episode, which aired in the coveted post-AFC Championship slot, delivered a staggering 18.7 million multiplatform viewers within 35 days of its debut. That makes it CBS’ most-watched scripted episode of the season so far. On the streaming front, the episode racked up 7 million viewers on Paramount+, earning the title of the most-streamed scripted episode of any CBS Original this season.

Watson is produced by CBS Studios and led by showrunner and executive producer Craig Sweeny, who also wrote the pilot. The series is stacked with a high-caliber team, including executive producers Morris Chestnut, Sallie Patrick, Larry Teng, Shäron Moalem, Aaron Kaplan, and Brian Morewitz. Distributed by Paramount Global Content Distribution, the series continues to grow in both reach and acclaim.

Synopsis – Watson

The plot picks up six months after the death of Sherlock Holmes, with Watson shifting from solving crimes to diagnosing rare medical conditions. Despite this pivot, Watson’s past isn’t far behind, especially with Moriarty still in the picture. The show blends high-stakes medicine with suspenseful mystery, making it a unique addition to CBS’ lineup.
