Chadwick Boseman will star as a South African man out for vengeance in Los Angeles in Entertainment One and Ink Factory’s Message From The King, reports Deadline.
Fabrice du Welz (Alleluia) is directing the revenge thriller about Jacob King, who arrives from South Africa in search of his younger sister with just a few hundred dollars and a plane ticket home in a week’s time. Twenty-four hours in, he learns she’s been killed and the film tells the story of what happens in the next six days.
Written by Stephen Cornwell and Oliver Butcher, Boseman will also serve as an executive producer. Entertainment One and Ink Factory are co-financing Message from the King, which eOne will sell and distribute worldwide. Stephen Cornwell and Simon Cornwell are producing for Ink Factory alongside David Lancaster, while Ash Shah will exec produce alongside Boseman.
Having been announced last week by Marvel that he will play Black Panther, Boseman will start production on ‘King’ in February 2015 in Los Angeles before shooting scenes in Captain America 3 that will introduce his Black Panther character to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
In a short amount of time, Boseman has become a big in the Hollywood community; having played Jackie Robinson in the box office hit ’42 as well as James Brown in ‘Get On Up.’ Earlier this year, he had a supporting role in ‘Draft Day’ opposite Kevin Costner and will play the god Thoth in the upcoming 2016 fantasy actioner Gods of Egypt. He signed a five-picture Disney/Marvel deal that includes a Black Panther film set for 2017.
