Various websites, including TheYBF.com, has posted the first pic of singer/ actress Mariah Carey inLee Daniels’ new historical drama The Butler, starring Forest Whitaker, Oprah Winfrey, David Oyelowo, Liam Neeson, John Cusack, Alan Rickman, Jane Fonda, Robin Williams, James Marsden, Aml Ameen, Liev Schreiber and many more.
The Butler is inspired by Wil Haygood’s Washington Post article about an African-American man who served as a butler (Whitaker) to eight Presidents in the White House for over thirty years. From this unique vantage point, the film traces the dramatic changes that swept American society, from the civil rights movement to Vietnam and beyond, and how those changes affected this man’s life and family.
Carey will play a slave named Hattie Pearl. This marks her third collaboration with Daniels. She portrayed social worker Mrs. Weiss in the his 2009 Precious, which won Oscars for Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Supporting Actress. She also had a starring role in the 2008 film Tennessee, which Daniels produced.
The Butler will hit theaters on August 12.
