Last night, Blackfilm.com attended the premiere for Lee Daniels’ The Butler, which was hosted by hosted by The Weinstein Co., Samsung Galaxy and DeLeon Tequila.
Held at the Ziegfeld Theater in NY, the entire cast and crew were in attendance, including director Daniels, Forest Whitaker, Oprah Winfrey, David Oyelowo, Terrence Howard, Cuba Gooding Jr., Elijah Kelley, Mariah Carey, Jane Fonda, Colman Domingo, Liev Schreiber, Aml Ameen, Minka Kelly, Yaya Alafia, Lenny Kravitz, Pernell Walker, Adriane Lenox, producer Michael Finley, costume designer Ruth Carter, acting coach Susan Batson, and Michael Rainey Jr.
Other celebrities who came out were Baseball legend Hank Aaron, Naomi Watts, Gayle King, Adepero Oduye, Cicely Tyson, Marisa Tomei, Monique Coleman, Fantasia Barrino, Keshia Knight Pulliam, and many more. Afterwards, folks headed to the afterparty, which was held at the Bowery Hotel.
“Lee Daniels’ The Butler” tells the story of a White House butler who served eight American presidents over three decades. The film traces the dramatic changes that swept American society during this time, from the civil rights movement to Vietnam and beyond, and how those changes affected this man’s life and family. Forest Whitaker stars as the butler Cecil Gaines, Opran Winfrey as his wife Gloria Gaines, Robin Williams as Dwight Eisenhower, John Cusack as Richard Nixon, Alan Rickman as Ronald Reagan, James Marsden as John F. Kennedy, Liev Schreiber as Lyndon B. Johnson, and many more.
Lee Daniels’ The Butler hits theaters on August 16.
