Rapper, actor and filmmaker Ice Cube has signed on to star in a yet-to-be titled high profile Sci-fi drama for Universal. The project will begin filming next month with fully remote production. Each actor will shoot their scenes entirely from separate remote locations, a concept that the film’s producer Timur Bekmambetov has been working to perfect for the last five years. Bermambetov and his Screenlife technology are known for stories that are told and unfold almost entirely on devices, an ideal concept in a Coronavirus-world.

With the box office success of the Ride Along franchise, and all the buzz surrounding the upcoming boxing drama, Flint Strong, Universal has done nothing but win when it comes to Ice Cube projects.  Smelling another hit, the studio has fast-tracked this new sci-fi drama with little plot details available. The film is being described as a District 9-esque film that “touches on themes of privacy versus surveillance,” according to Deadline.com.

Ice Cube announced last year that the much-anticipated script for the Ice Cube/Kevin Hart buddy cop comedy Ride Along 3 is finally in the works.

O’Shea “Ice Cube” Jackson is one of the first of many rapper’s to successfully transition from music to acting and filmmaking. (Others include Will Smith, LL Cool J, Ice T, Queen Latifah, 50 Cent, RZA, TI Harris, Ludacris, Mos Def, Eminem, Master P, Romeo, and Bow Wow to name  few)  Cube’s 1991 stellar debut performance in 1991’s Boyz N the Hood jump started it all. O’Shea has come a long way from N.W.A. and we are so proud.
