“The Suicide Squad” star Idris Elba joins action-adventure comedy film Sonic the Hedgehog 2 cast as ‘Knuckles the Echidna.’
Knuckles is a red Echidna and he’s the guardian of the Master Emerald in the videogames. He is also known to be hot-headed and a fighter. Ben Schwartz reprises his role as the voice of Sonic the Hedgehog, alongside Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnik, with James Marsden and Tika Sumpter in the roles of Tom and Maddie Wachowski .
Elba made the official ‘Sonic the Hedgehog 2’ announcement on Twitter with a picture of Knuckles’ spiked fist.
After defeating Dr. Robotnik and sending him to the mushroom planet, Sonic is ready for more freedom, as Tom and Maddie agree to let him stay home while they go on vacation. However, Dr. Robotnik (now Dr. Eggman) returns from the Mushroom planet with a new partner, Knuckles, in search of an emerald that can give the power to build and destroy civilizations. Now, Sonic and his newfound best friend, Tails, embark on a journey to get the emerald, before it falls into Eggman’s hands.
Jeff Fowler is returning to direct on the sequel after delivering a pre-pandemic blockbuster for Paramount with the first 2020 film which grossed close to $320M WW. Pat Casey, Josh Miller and John Whittington are writing the script off a story which Casey and Miller penned based on the SEGA video game. Neal H. Moritz, Toby Ascher, Toru Nakahara, Hitoshi Okuno are producing. EPs are Haruki Satomi, Yukio Sugino, Shuji Utsumi, Nan Morales and Tim Miller.
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is scheduled for release in the United States on April 8, 2022, by Paramount Pictures in association with SEGA Sammy Group.
