Jordan Peele To Produce Remake of Wes Cravens’ ‘The People Under the Stairs’

LOS ANGELES - SEP 12: Jordan Peele at the Halloween Horror Nights at the Universal Studios Hollywood on September 12, 2019 in Universal City, CA

On the heels of its 29th anniversary, Collider has announced that Jordan Peele will be producing the remake of Wes Cravens’ horror satire The People Under the Stairs. Peele will collaborate once again with Win Rosenfeld to produce the film through his company Monkeypaw Productions along with Universal. The two co-wrote the 2020 reimagining of the 1992 classic, Candyman

The People Under the Stairs follows “Fool” (Brandon Adams) and two adult robbers as they break into their landlord’s house in efforts to retrieve their prized coin collection. To the group’s dismay, they encounter bizarre events – and people – inside the basement. The movie has often been said to have social and political underlying themes even though Craven has denied them all. Brandon Adams, Everett McGill, Wendy Robie, A.J. Langer and Ving Rhames were the original cast in the film. This is the first time a Wes Craven film has been remade since his death in 2015. Before this, Craven was in collaboration with the SYFY Channel to develop a show based on his 1991 film.

Known for his ability to direct horror movies with socio-political themes – it hasn’t been said if Peele will be directing this remake. The horror movie aficionado has credits for the wildly popular horror satire Get Out and the horror flick US. On the producing side, Peele has executive produced HBO’s wildly popular Lovecraft Country, CBS All Access’ The Twilight Zone, Amazon’s Hunters, and his 2020 remake Candyman.
