Two-time Oscar winner Mahershala Ali will play boxer Jack Johnson in the HBO limited series ‘Unruly’.
The six-part series is based on the PBS documentary titled ‘Unforgivable Blackness: The Rise and Fall of Jack Johnson’ which was produced and directed by Ken Burns. The HBO series will be written by Tony-nominated Dominique Morisseau.

Ali previously took on the role of Jack Johnson on stage in a production of “The Great White Hope” in 2000 and said in a 2017 Hollywood Reporter interview that portraying Jack Johnson and Marvin Gaye were his dream roles.
