Netflix Offers a Glimpse of ‘Trial 4’ with Trailer

Netflix is releasing a new true-crime docuseries Trial 4 on November 11 – highlighting the unjust trial and conviction of Sean K. Ellis. The series was directed by Rémy Burkel with documentarian Jean-Xavier de Lestrade serving as the executive producer. This will be de Lestrade’s second project for the network, with his fist being controversial true-crime docuseries – The Staircase

At the age of 19 Sean K. Ellis was found guilty for the murder of Boston Police Detective John Mulligan, who then ultimately faced four different trials to prove his innocence. In the initial three trials that were held back to back within a years time, Ellis’ attorney’s maintained his innocence. His team and supporters pleaded that Ellis was a victim of corrupt police behavior and that the police department wanted to pin a perp quickly and quietly. Despite their efforts, Ellis served 22 years in prison for a crime he didn’t commit. Trial 4 dives into the complete case along with the fourth and final trial – possibly sending Ellis to prison for life.

A tragically familiar tale for many in America, Trial 4 underlines regretfully timely themes like systemic racism, police corruption and criminal justice reform. Check out the trailer above to get a glimpse at the series.
