HBO has announced that Nicole Ari Parker has joined the cast of Lanterns, the highly anticipated new drama series based on DC’s Green Lantern comics. Parker will star alongside Aaron Pierre, who was announced in October 2024 as the lead playing John Stewart, one of the most popular Green Lantern characters. The series follows John Stewart, a new recruit, and Hal Jordan, a seasoned Lantern legend, as they investigate a dark mystery in the American heartland.

The series is created by HBO in association with Warner Bros. Television and DC Studios. Emmy®-nominee Chris Mundy (True Detective: Night Country, Ozark) will serve as showrunner and executive producer. The series is co-written by Mundy, Emmy®-winner Damon Lindelof (Watchmen, The Leftovers), and Eisner Award winner Tom King (Mister Miracle, Supergirl). Lindelof and King will also serve as executive producers. James Hawes (Black Mirror, Slow Horses) is set to direct the first two episodes.
Nicole Ari Parker is widely known for her role as Teri Joseph in the Showtime series Soul Food and for her performance as Lisa Todd Wexley in HBO’s And Just Like That… Parker has also appeared in notable films including Boogie Nights (1997), Remember the Titans (2000), and Brown Sugar (2002). Her extensive television credits include roles in Empire, Chicago P.D., and Blue Streak.
Lanterns will consist of eight episodes and is expected to deliver a fresh take on the Green Lantern legacy. The series promises to blend superhero action with gritty detective drama, drawing inspiration from classic DC Comics storylines.
