Reinaldo Marcus Green Tapped to Direct Paramount’s Bob Marley Biopic

Monsters and Men director, Reinaldo Marcus Green, has been tapped to direct the Bob Marley biopic for Paramount pictures. The news, reported by Deadline, also noted that Marley’s wife, Rita, and children Ziggy and Cedella Marley will be producing under their Tuff Gong banner. Barbershop series producer, Robert Teitel, will also be joining on as producer. Reinaldo Marcus Green Tapped to Direct Paramount’s Bob Marley Biopic

To Deadline, Green commented “Bob Marley’s music lives on in all of us. His lyrics transcend continents, color, creed, and generations of people. It heals. It fights…It bleeds love and truth. It’s a true honor and privilege to work with Ziggy and the Marley Family, and Paramount Pictures to bring his story to life. Audiences want to know the real Bob, the man as well as the legend. I trust this film will bring us closer to understanding his journey, his music, and continue to carry the torch of his legacy with humility and grace, and most of all, love.”

Emma Watts, President of Paramount Motion Picture Group, handpicked Green to direct the highly anticipated film. She has already proven to be a maven of biopics, being largely responsible for Bohemian Rhapsody – the film based on the life of Queen frontman Freddy Mercury – when she was President of production at 20th Century Fox.

Green impressed critics with his 2018 film Monsters and Men, which won The Sundance Film Festival’s Special Jury Award for Outstanding First Feature. He has recently directed the Mark Wahlberg lead film, Good Joe Bell, as well as directed the first three episodes of Netflix’s Top Boy and the Will Smith narrated and executive produced series Amend: Fight for America. Will Smith originally got wind of Green from his Sundance win who, alongside Warner Bros, recruited Green to direct the upcoming film King Richard, a biopic revolving around Richard Williams the father and driving force behind Tennis superstars Venus and Serena Williams. Smith is starring as Williams in the highly awaited film.
