On Rewind with Ellen ep. 8, hosts Ellen J. Wanjiru and Rougét Carter discuss Colin in Black and White, a bold and dramatic limited series that chronicles Colin Kaepernick’s coming of age story, tackling the obstacles of race, class and culture as the Black adopted child of a white family and The Harder They Fall, a revisionist Western film that follows outlaw Nat Love who, when he discovers that his enemy is being released from prison, saddles up with his gang to take him down. Colin in Black and White stars Jaden Michael as Young Colin before reaching the highest levels of American football as an NFL quarterback and becoming a cultural icon and activist; Nick Offerman and Mary-Louise Parker as his well-meaning parents Rick and Teresa; and Colin Kaepernick himself, who appears as the present-day narrator of his own story, guiding viewers through a robust and colorfully presented array of historical and contemporary contextual moments. You don’t know Kaepernick until you know Colin.
Co-created by Ava DuVernay & Colin Kaepernick and executive produced by DuVernay, Kaepernick, Michael Starrbury.

The Harder They Fall: When outlaw Nat Love (Jonathan Majors) discovers that his enemy Rufus Buck (Idris Elba) is being released from prison he rounds up his gang to track Rufus down and seek revenge. Those riding with him in this assured, righteously new school Western include his former love Stagecoach Mary (Zazie Beetz), his right and left hand men — hot-tempered Bill Pickett (Edi Gathegi) and fast drawing Jim Beckwourth (R.J. Cyler)—and a surprising adversary-turned-ally. Rufus Buck has his own fearsome crew, including “Treacherous” Trudy Smith (Regina King) and Cherokee Bill (LaKeith Stanfield), and they are not a group that knows how to lose. The cast also includes Danielle Deadwyler, Delroy Lindo, Deon Cole and Daman Wayans Jr.
Directed and written by Jeymes Samuel, co-written by Boaz Yakin, produced by Shawn Carter aka JAY-Z, James Lassiter, Lawrence Bender and Jeymes Samuel.
