Apple+ is churning out yet another limited series, this time based on best-selling author Walter Mosley’s novel The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey, starring Samuel L. Jackson. The author is adapting the novel for screen as well as executive producing alongside Jackson, Mosley’s producing partner Diane Houslin, and Anonymous Content’s David Levine and Eli Selden.
Jackson plays Ptolemy Grey, a 91 year-old man who is struggling with dementia; forgotten by everyone surrounding him, even himself. Given the chance to regain his memory unlike ever before, yet forsaking the chance to see another year, Ptolemy uses new found clarity to solve the murder of his nephew and to settle grievances with his past.
Ptolemy Grey is the latest novel from Mosley, who is most recognized for his crime-fiction novels. Author to over sixty books, Mosley became the first black man to receive the National Book Foundation’s Medal for Distinguished Contribution to American Letters in 2020. This is his second dive into television, as the author has served as writer and executive producer for FX’s Snowfall.
Samuel L. Jackson will be joining forces with Apple+ for the second time on Ptolemy Grey, having worked on the streamers 2020 film The Banker. Jackson has starred in a slew of films including Pulp Fiction, The Hateful Eight, and Captain Marvel. The actor has a lineup of projects to be released including Disney+’s Secret Invasion and the films; The Hitman Wife’s Bodyguard, The Asset, Spiral and Blazing Samurai.
