Last weekend we had the honor of sharing in the historic win of Ruth Carter. Carter became the first Black woman to win two Oscars in any category when she took home the prestigious statue for Best Costume Design for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
blackfilm.com correspondent Ro Carter was in the Oscar press room and asked Carter about her approach to designing the film following the epic win.
Carter took home her first Oscar for Black Panther in 2018 making history then as the first Black woman to win in the category. She was previously nominated for the award in 1992 for her work on Spike Lee film Malcolm X and again in 1997 for Steven Spielberg‘s Amistad.
Her expansive resume includes iconic films like School Daze, I’m Gonna Git You Sucka, Do the Right Thing, The Five Heartbeats, What’s Love Got to Do with It, Crooklyn, B*A*P*S, How Stella Got Her Groove Back, Love & Basketball, Bamboozled, Baby Boy, Coming 2 America and many many many more!
