Disney+’s popular American Space Western, The Mandalorian, is receiving two spinoffs with Ahsoka Tano and Rangers of the New Republic. The series are coming from The Mandalorian creator Jon Favreau and writer Dave Filoni. Lucasfilm executive, Kathleen Kennedy, made the announcement of the new Star Wars installments during Disney’s Investor Day. Kennedy also revealed that both series and season 3 of The Mandalorian can be expected on the streamer Christmas 2021.
Rosario Dawson is set to play Ahsoka Tano, whose character was revealed on the latest season of The Mandalorian. Little news was given about the plot for Ahsoka Tano other than it being set in the same time period as The Mandalorian. Season two of the show, may have dropped a few hints, however, when in episode 5 Ahsoka was hunting for Grand admiral Thrawn, a Star Wars Rebels villain who disappeared with one of the series main heroes (Jedi-in-training Ezra Bridger) in the Rebels finale. Little has been reported on Rangers, but fan sites have said the show may give more insight on the Star Wars galaxy in the early days of the New Republic.
Also revealed on Disney’s Investor Day, was news of Justin Simien’s (Dear White People) event series Lando, which is in early development.
