‘This is Us’ Co-EP Kay Oyegun Selected for NBCUniversal’s Female Forward Director Program

The 2020-2021 class for NBCUniversal’s Female Forward and Emerging Director Programs has been announced. This Is Us co-executive producer and writer, Kaye Ogun, is a part of the talented few selected. Janine Jones-Clark – NBCUniversal’s Senior VP of Global Talent Development and Inclusion – announced the winners. The program focuses on being a conduit into scripted television for female, ethnically diverse male and non-binary directors; increasing representation as a whole for the network.

Through the program, chosen directors are assigned to a NBC scripted series. Candidates shadow up to two episodes before leading an episode of the same series on their own. To be considered for the program, finalists must have directing experience in their field of expertise. Feature films, music videos, commercials, digital content and theater are all areas that are considered. In addition to this, contestants are unable to hold more than one scripted television directing credit.

Kay Oyegun is amongst the new class of directors. Oyegun has served as co-executive producer and writer on NBC hit drama This Is Us since 2016. She has also written for OWN’s popular family-drama Queen Sugar. Oyegun has an aptitude for film as well. She will be using her talents to adapt two best-selling novels; Children of Blood and Bone for Lucasfilm, Fox and Disney and On the Come Up (from the author of The Hate U Give) for Paramount. Keeping her roster full, Oyegun has also sold the feature film The Ancestor to HBO Max and the film Assisted Living to Paramount. Oyegun is a NAACP Image Award winner for her work on This Is Us.
