What Is The Dream Collective?

According to the official Dream Collective website, this initiative invites filmmakers to submit their original short film concepts for the chance to bring their vision to life with full production support from Tyler Perry Studios. Selected participants will be guided through script development, pre-production, filming, and post-production—all while gaining valuable industry experience.

Final short films will debut across national platforms and events, offering invaluable exposure for new talent. The program emphasizes creative authenticity, technical execution, and storytelling that reflects the diverse experiences of underrepresented communities. By providing resources typically out of reach for many new filmmakers, The Dream Collective seeks to bridge the gap between raw talent and industry access.

Tyler Perry Studios, long known for being one of the few Black-owned major studios in the U.S., has previously offered emerging creatives an avenue to gain real-world experience in television and film. The Dream Collective represents an extension of this mission, formalizing a structure to spotlight new storytellers ready to make their mark.

How to Submit

Submissions for The Dream Collective open from April 17 through May 1, 2025. Interested applicants can visit the official program page to review eligibility criteria and application guidelines. Filmmakers must submit a completed entry form, a short film treatment (up to 500 words), a personal statement, and optional work samples. Early preparation is encouraged.

Why This Matters

This initiative reflects Tyler Perry’s continued dedication to creating pathways for new talent in the entertainment industry. By combining mentorship with hands-on experience and national visibility, The Dream Collective offers a rare opportunity for aspiring filmmakers to break into Hollywood on a meaningful scale.

With Perry’s legacy of self-made success and commitment to uplifting unheard voices, this program is positioned to foster lasting change within the film industry—one emerging filmmaker at a time.
