Former The Chi showrunner, Ayanna Floyd-Davis, is in negotiations to bring back the 90’s classic New York Undercover to screens. The cop drama is nearing commitments on NBCUniversal’s streaming platform – Peacock – and will be executive produced by original show co-creator, producer, and TV juggernaut Dick Wolf. Floyd revived the series, serving as writer, showrunner, and executive producer in conjunction with Wolf Entertainment’s; Wolf, Peter Jankowski and Arthur Forney. Subdivision of Universal Studio Group – UniTV – will be producing in alliance with Wolf Entertainment.
Debuting in 1994, New York Undercover held a four season run on Fox. The series was a first for TV, with Malik Yoba and Michael DeLorenzo playing the lead roles of undercover detectives J.C. Williams and Eddie Torres. This was the first time two people of color played lead roles on a police drama in the States. Floyd Davis’ rendition of the cop classic is still in its infancy – there’s no word on whether original characters will be included in the reboot or not.
Floyd Davis has an impressive TV resume, offering her talents to Private Practice, Empire, and The Chi.
