Gugu Mbatha-Raw has signed on for the upcoming ‘Odd Thomas,’ stated Variety.

The film is based on a character created by novelist Dean Koontz and features a clairvoyant with the power to see (but not hear) the dead. First appearing in 2003’s “Odd Thomas,” the character has returned for three subsequent books, “Forever Odd,” “Brother Odd” and “Odd Hours,” as well as for two graphic novels.

Mbatha-Raw’s role is unspecified, but she’ll join Anton Yelchin in the title role with Addison Timlin starring as Thomas’ girlfriend and Patton Oswalt in another supporting role. The likely (but still not confirmed) cast also includes Willem Dafoe and Nico Tortorella.

The film will be directed by Stephen Sommers, who is also producing for the Sommers Co., along with Fusion Films partners John Baldecchi and Howard Kaplan.

Mbatha-Raw will later be seen in the upcoming Tom HanksJulia Roberts film ‘Larry Crowne,’ with Taraji P. Henson and Cedric the Entertainer. The British actress plays a quirky college student who befriends Tom Hanks’ character.

She was last seen opposite Boris Kodjoe in the TV series, the J.J Abrams’ NBC spy drama ‘Undercovers,’ which was cancelled in 2010 after low ratings. Only 11 of 13 episodes were aired

‘Odd Thomas’ is scheduled to start filming on May 2 in Santa Fe, NM.
