Peacock has just announced the release date along with the trailer for its new original comedy, Girls5Eva. The show premieres Thursday, May 6 on Peacock, with all eight episodes dropping at once on the streaming service from NBCUniversal. Girls5Eva Comedy Trailer Peacock
Girls5Eva is about a one-hit-wonder girl group from the 90’s who gets sampled by a young rapper, inspiring the members to reunite, giving their pop star dreams one more shot. They may be grown women balancing spouses, kids, jobs, debt, aging parents, and shoulder pain, but can‘t they also be Girls5Eva?
The series stars Grammy and Tony Award-winning actress and singer Renée Elise Goldsberry (Hamilton, Rent, Altered Carbon), Grammy Award-winner and Tony and Emmy Award-nominated singer Sara Bareilles, Emmy winning Saturday Night Live mainstay and comedy icon Paula Pell (A.P. Bio, Wine Country), and New York Times Best-Selling author, actor, activist, writer and host Busy Philipps (Cougar Town, Geeks and Freaks).
Meredith Scardino serves as creator and executive producer for the series. Jeff Richmond, Tina Fey (Little Stranger, Inc.), Robert Carlock (Bevel Gears), David Miner (3 Arts Entertainment), and Eric Gurian (Little Stranger) also serve as executive producers. Girls5eva is produced by Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group.
Reneé Elise Goldsberry originated the role of Angelica Schuyler in the Broadway musical hit Hamilton. In 2016, the actress won a Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Musical for her portrayal. On the stage, Goldsberry has also starred in Broadway hits The Color Purple as Nettie Harris and Rent as Mimi Vasquez. On the TV side, the actress has starred in CBS’ The Good Wife and One Life to Live, receiving two Daytime Emmy Award nominations. In film, she has starred in Every Secret Thing, Sisters, and 2019’s Waves alongside Sterling K. Brown.
